Community Service Sewing Day Recap

Last Saturday (May 30, 2026), our sewing community came together at the Avenir Museum for a project with a big impact: making reusable grocery bags for the VA Clinic in Loveland.

On behalf of the American Sewing Guild (Fort Collins Chapter) and the Avenir Museum, thank you to everyone who donated time, skills, and good energy to this effort. Because of you, we had a productive, feel-good day of sewing for service—and we’re excited to share the results.

What we accomplished (together!)

By the end of the event, participants completed 77 reusable grocery bags on-site.

And the momentum didn’t stop when we packed up the machines:

• Stephanie Rusk, the event organizer, finished 51 additional bags that were already in the final stage of construction.

• Kristen Otto took home 52 bags that needed the last two stages of construction to be completed.

That means 180 bags will be delivered within the next week or so.

Even more bags are on the way

We also had 120 bags in earlier stages of construction. An anonymous sewer generously volunteered to complete those bags over the coming weeks.

When all of those are finished and delivered, the VA Clinic will ultimately receive 300 reusable grocery bags—a huge gift to the clinic and the people it serves.
