What Are Neighborhood Groups?

Neighborhood Groups are the heart of the American Sewing Guild (ASG), bringing together sewing enthusiasts in local communities to share their passion, skills, and creativity. These groups offer a welcoming environment for members to connect, learn, and inspire one another through various activities and events.

Within ASG, Neighborhood Groups (NGs) are smaller gatherings that operate under the umbrella of a larger chapter. They meet regularly, often monthly, to engage in sewing-related programs, workshops, and social events. These meetings provide opportunities for members to:

  • Learn New Techniques: Through demonstrations and hands-on workshops, members can expand their sewing skills.

  • Share Projects: Showcase completed works and receive constructive feedback.

  • Participate in Community Service: Collaborate on projects that benefit local charities and organizations.

Benefits of Joining a Neighborhood Group

  • Personalized Experience: With smaller group sizes, members receive more individualized attention and support.

  • Diverse Interests: Some groups focus on specific areas like garment sewing, quilting, or embroidery, allowing members to delve deeper into their particular interests.

  • Flexible Scheduling: Multiple groups within a chapter may meet at different times and locations, accommodating various schedules.

Fort Collins Chapter Neighborhood Groups

The Fort Collins Chapter of ASG offers several Neighborhood Groups to cater to diverse sewing interests:

  • Thursday Morning Stitchers: Meets on the second Thursday of each month from 9:30 am to 11:30 am. Past programs have included topics like 5-10 Minute Quilt Blocks and Matchstick Quilting.

  • Garments & More: Ideal for those interested in garment sewing and embellishment. Meets on the second Saturday of each month from noon to 5 pm at The Sewing Circle, located at 4112 S. College Ave., Fort Collins.

  • Sit 'N Stitch: Perfect for enthusiasts of embroidery, needlepoint, knitting, crochet, and more. Meets on the fourth Friday of each month from 9:00 am to 11:00 am at Harmony Library.

Getting Involved

Joining a Neighborhood Group is a fantastic way to immerse yourself in the local sewing community. Prospective members are welcome to attend two meetings free to meet other members and see what the chapter is involved in. After the second meeting, you can join the chapter through the National American Sewing Guild website or by filling out an application and mailing it in.
